Coma / Hostel / The Harvest hybrid has been done numerous times before and will be done numerous times again in the future. While it lacks originality, it is able to separate itself from the others with its sleek, stylish direction. Director Tammi Sutton is able to give the film a visually pleasing look. Scenes depicting the harvesting of organs or characters being treated to ghastly medical procedures are unusually effective. These scenes are gruesome, cringe worthy and challenging to stomach at times. Other scenes showing the underground facility testing out medical procedures or conducting tests on deadly viruses on its hostages shows innovation. The entire cast is solid right down the line. Standing out in the pact, is veteran actor Andrew Prine who makes for a hideously nasty, cold hearted SOB. Sutures isn't an award worthy horror film, but it knows how to generate suspense, terror, panic, and confusion. Aren't horror films supposed to create a sense of unease with viewers? With that in mind, Sutures passes with flying colors.
